Jakarta, 30 December 2024 – The IABC Indonesia Conference 2024 explored trends and strategic directions in communication in Indonesia. The ever-evolving dynamics of the business world and emerging trends require strategies that can build trust, establish credibility, and make a meaningful impact while aligning company actions with social values. 

The conference, themed “Trends 2025: Purposeful Impact,” brought together PR practitioners, communication professionals, and business leaders to share insights and communication strategies aimed at building trust, transparency, and credibility in public interactions.

Elvera N. Makki, President of IABC Indonesia, stated, “We have identified the communication trend for 2025, which is Purposeful Impact. Impact-driven communication goes beyond just delivering information. Every communication professional must be able to build trust, inspire action, and create sustainable relationships with stakeholders. Technology plays a crucial role in 2025 in how we communicate and innovate, and this is where technological advancements and digital literacy are at the forefront for us at IABC. As communicators, our role is to convey clear and relevant objectives that align with the values of the organization and its stakeholders. With inclusive, transparent, and empathetic communication strategies, we can ensure that every message not only resonates but also drives meaningful change
toward a shared vision.” 

Elvera N. Makki, President of IABC Indonesia, welcomed the participants and explained about PR Trends 2025: Purposeful Impact. With this trend, IABC Indonesia wants PR professionals to strengthen their strategic position in the institutions where they work, to be able to create a meaningful impact on their target audience and stakeholders. 

The International Association of Business Communicators (IABC) – Indonesia Chapter is a non-profit organization for communication professionals, including Public Relations, Corporate Affairs, Business Communicators, Corporate Social Responsibility/Sustainability, and Government Relations. The IABC Indonesia Conference featured three keynote speakers and three panel sessions with credible speakers, including international PR experts, offering new insights and networking opportunities with added international value for participants.

The IABC Indonesia Conference featured a keynote speaker, Hasan Nasbi, Head of the Presidential Communication Office, who emphasized the need for persuasive communication rather than propagandistic or provocative approaches. He further stated that IABC's Purposeful Impact trend aligns with the communication goals of the Government of the Republic of Indonesia. It is hoped that IABC will play a significant role in supporting the government’s major campaigns toward achieving Indonesia Emas 2045.

Hasan Nasbi, Head of the Presidential Communications Office (PCO), Republic of Indonesia as Keynote Speaker of the IABC Indonesia Conference, emphasized the importance of persuasive communication, not propaganda and provocative ones that manipulate information. He supports the PR trend set by IABC Indonesia, hoping that IABC will become part of the government's big campaign towards Indonesia Emas 2045. 

The first panel session, titled “Beyond Traditional Communications through AI-Driven Engagement,” was delivered by four panelists: Ferro Ferizka, Executive Director of Pijar Foundation; Jihan Aryani, Country Community Manager for Canva; Tyo Guritno, CEO & Co-Founder of Inspigo; and Adrian Cropley, Distinguished Advisor IABC Indonesia, with Dwi Fatan Lilyana, Director of HR, Education and Research at RSCM, as the moderator. This session discussed how companies leverage AI to enhance audience engagement, increase efficiency, and remain relevant in the ever-evolving digital age.

Makki (President of IABC Indonesia) after a meaningful discussion on the use of AI for impactful communication and innovative.

The second panel session, moderated by Elvera N. Makki, President of IABC Indonesia, featured three communication experts: Hera F. Haryn, EVP of Corporate Communication and Social Responsibility at BCA; Dr. (H.C.) Prita Kemal Gani, MBA, MCIPR, APR, FIPR, Founder and CEO of LSPR Institute of Communication & Business; and Tri Mumpuni, Board Governance Member of the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN). This session, titled "Trust in Transparency & Ethics: Authenticity Matters," highlighted the importance of building trust in the digital age, where transparency and ethics are key elements of every communication strategy.

The panel session concluded with a discussion on “Sustainable Speaks: Communication Strategies Amidst Socially Conscious Audiences,” presented by four experts: Arif Mujahidin, Corporate Communications Director at Danone Indonesia; Angkie Yudistia, Communication and Inclusion Expert; Andry P. Santoso, General Manager of Corporate Social Responsibility at Telkomsel; and Edward Manaor Siahaan, Manager of CSR & SMEPP at PT Kilang Pertamina Internasional, with Donna Priadi, Director of Strategic Partnerships at IABC Indonesia, as the moderator. This session addressed the importance of aligning corporate messages with sustainability and social responsibility values, including inclusivity and women leadership.

In addition to the conference, IABC Indonesia also hosted the IABC Indonesia Awards, which featured various companies vying for the Impactful Communication Awards and Impactful Public Relations Awards.

Meutya Vidia Hafid, Minister of Communication and Digital, Republic of Indonesia, delivered a keynote speech at the IABC Indonesia Awards 2024, expressing her appreciation for the event and congratulating all the winners of this prestigious competition. She stated, "This event is a testament to the spirit of collaboration and the continuous innovation in the field of communication. In this increasingly interconnected era, effective communication and strong digital literacy serve as bridges to create a smart, critical society ready to face global challenges. With robust digital literacy, we not only overcome challenges but also create new opportunities for economic, educational, and social development. This is the foundation for navigating the future, where technology and communication will become even more interconnected. Therefore, the Ministry of Communication and Digital is committed to continuously enhancing digital literacy education programs for all sectors of society, fostering a generation capable of discerning valid information, combating misinformation, and leveraging technology to create impactful solutions for the community."

Meutya Hafid, Minister of Communications and Digital, Republic of Indonesia when serving as Keynote Speaker at the IABC Indonesia Awards 2024: Awarding Night, underlined the importance of effective communication strategies in fostering digital literacy and encouraging ethical practices in Indonesia's rapidly developing digital landscape. The minister appreciated the IABC Indonesia Awards and congratulated all the winners.

In his keynote speech at the IABC Indonesia Awards 2024, Emil Elestianto Dardak, Vice Governor of East Java (2019-2024), stated, “In Indonesian politics, based on direct elections, including the presidential election, communication patterns are changing. These patterns, public participation in politics, and the increasing awareness and needs of the public sector regarding communication are also rising.”

He emphasized the role of strategic communication in encouraging regional innovation and sustainable development in the digital era.

He continued, “Thus, the trend designed by IABC with purposeful and impactful communication must be implemented. A good campaign is not just focused on a single activity, but rather a series of activities with a clear objective. This way, it will provide optimal impact for stakeholders, in this case, the broader public.”

Award recipients of the Awards of Merit in the Impactful Communications Awards category include Yayasan Pijar Masa Depan,
PT PLN (Persero), PT Pertamina Hulu, and PT Vale Indonesia Tbk.

Meanwhile, the recipients of the Awards of Merit in the Impactful Public Relations Awards category are PT Pertamina Hulu Indonesia, PT Pertamina (Persero), Sumbawa Timur Mining, PT PLN (Persero), VMCS Advisory Indonesia, PT Bank Central Asia Tbk, Flashback Motion, PT PLN Energi Primer Indonesia, and Kandi Imaji (PT Srikandi Imaji Lintaskreasi).

Recipients of the Awards of Excellence in the Impactful Communications Awards category are Wartsila, Bank Indonesia Representative Office of Kalimantan-Utara, PT PLN (Persero), Bapak Darmawan Prasodjo, Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology, PT GLOSKIN, and Yayasan Filantra.

The Award of Excellence for Impactful Public Relations Awards was given to PT Bank Central Asia Tbk, PT Pertamina Hulu Indonesia, and PT PLN (Persero).

The Top 10 IABC Awards 2024 recipients are Sumbawa Timur Mining, PT Pertamina Hulu Indonesia, Yayasan Pendidikan Investasi Muda Indonesia (Let’s Invest Girls), Great Giant Foods, Bank Indonesia Representative Office of Kalimantan-Utara, PT PLN (Persero), Bapak Gregorius Adi Trianto, PT PLN (Persero), and Yayasan Pijar Masa Depan.
